Navigation Info

The navigation links are customizable and can be unrelated to the actual site or site collection you create.  The navigation links can be inherited from the parent site or can be unrelated and contain any link. 

Nav infor for SPS 2010

By default you have quick launch links on the left and top link bar navigation on the top.  Both can edited using SharePoint Designer or the browser. In the browser look for Look and Feel > navigation in site settings.  Under Global Navigation are the settings for inheriting the top navigation and to turn on subsites. Current Navigation is used for this site and appears on the side.
