Reset Index from Microsoft

Solution

To solve the issue follow these steps:

  1. Stop the Timer Service
  2. Clear the configuration cache
    1. Find in \ProgramData\Microsoft\SharePoint\Config the folder where the file cache.ini exists
    2. Delete every file from this folder EXCEPT cache.ini
    3. Open cache.ini, delete the content and put ’1′ (without the quotes) in it and save the file
  3. Restart the Timer Service
  4. Index reset
  5. Full crawl

Title or Not to Title–That is the question

Strange search results in Office 365

The first line in the file was my title … not the name of the file … but what is title in your organization?  Is title the filename or a special title column.  No problem since search was engineered to solve this issue.

By design … you can change in your search scheme by modifying the title managed property

Just move your “title” up.

Do you have the same issue with author?  No problem since author handled like title, so you can just move it on up.

Works for new document … but old documents are not effected until full crawl.  Note that the crawl schedule will effect your results

Microsoft hides many URLs that can be valuable to any SharePoint or O365 administrator.  However note as always that you should test all the following links in your test or dev environment.

So you want to control what SharePoint displays on one SharePoint page.   CSS is the way to go.  But the CSS learning curve can be steep.  So here is a quick way for SharePoint Admins to add or remove functionallity.

Columns Headers

Remove the column headers (Student and Grade ) from this list

First you need to edit the page and insert a content editor web part to your page.  You can put it anywhere on the page but the bottom will cause less issues.

Now edit Content Editor Web Part

Click “Click here to add new content” and select Edit Source from the ribbon
  
Copy and paste the CSS code from below into the HTML Source box.

Click OK to save your webpart settings and save your page


If you want to remove everything …
Under List Views, set Toolbar Type to No Toolbar and under Appearance set Chrome Type to None.

Two ways - Prevent non-owners/designers editing the web part – thx Mike
1) For just that one web part, go to Modify Shared Web Part, expand the Advanced section and uncheckmark "Allow Editing in Personal View".
2) Modify the Permission Levels (or preferred: create new permission levels) that do not have "Manage Personal Views" checked.
